Passport standard of Ukraine (resolution No. 55 of 27.01.2010).
How it works
The Ukrainian mode follows Cabinet of Ministers resolution No. 55 (2010), the standard for Ukrainian passports: Є, Ї, Й, Ю, Я are written differently at the start of a word (Yenakiieve, Yurii), and зг becomes zgh. The Russian mode follows ICAO Doc 9303, used in Russian passports since 2013 — that's why Юрий is Iurii there. Slug mode lowercases everything, drops punctuation and joins words with hyphens.
FAQ
Why is Юлія written as Yuliia and not Yulia?
That's the official 2010 Ukrainian standard: ю at the start of a word is yu, я elsewhere is ia. Banks and visa centres expect the exact passport spelling.
Which mode for a website URL?
Slug. It gives short readable addresses like /kak-nastroit-vps without apostrophes or special characters.
